From 9 June till 30 September, Marvel fans in Singapore will get to re-live a decade of epic Marvel Studio moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes exhibition, held at the Artscience Museum at Marina Bay Sands. Ticket prices starts from S$12 for children under 12 and S$16 for adults, with family packages available from S$45.

The exhibition features ten themed galleries where visitors get to experience Marvel Studios’ storytelling as you wander through the inner sanctums of Iron Man’s Stark Tower, witness the spectacular sights of Wakanda, traverse Doctor Strange’s light portal, see the world through the eyes of Ant-Man and the Wasp, and more.

What was cool to me were the interactive features like a station where you get to create a teleport hole like Dr. Strange or and another station where you get to animate Groot to mimic your dance moves. Kids will love this and my son Asher had a lot of fun at these two stations.

For those looking for photo opportunities and instagram-worthy moments, there are lots of Marvel life-size figurines and character zones for these and you won’t be disappointed.

The Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes exhibition is part of a three-year collaboration between Singapore Tourism Board and The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia to bring unique and fun thematic events to Singapore.

With ten themed sections, Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes begins at the first gallery space by presenting MARVEL films that have been released over the last decade. Visitors will have the opportunity to relive key moments from all 19 MARVEL movies.

The second gallery shines a spotlight on the beloved Iron Man, a key character in this year’s highest-grossing movie Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War. Visitors will enter Stark Tower and head into Tony Stark’s workshop where they can witness the evolution of armors of Iron Man via projection mapping.

The story of the First Avenger Captain America and his shields will be shared via 3D holograms in the third zone. Taking a scene from Marvel’s The Avengers, visitors will also be able to view a model of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier.

Visitors will then be transported into the fourth exhibition gallery of Thor’s world via the Bifrost. They will be led into Sakaar’s magnificent gladiator arena where they can be part of the iconic battle between Thor and Hulk in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok.

The battle ends as visitors head to the fifth area of the exhibition where they enter Yondu’s ship from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and attempt to avoid Yondu’s flying arrow. As part of the exhibition experience, museum goers can interact and dance with baby Groot via digital screens.

Transitioning into the sixth gallery, the exhibition proceeds with the mystic environment of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange. Visitors will be transported to the New York Sanctum Sanctorum as seen in the film, while interactive displays will allow them to bend reality or create portals.

The Panther cave welcomes visitors into the seventh exhibition gallery and they can enter the futurist utopia of Wakanda.

The eighth zone introduces the ant-sized/microscopic world of Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Oversized props amidst lab equipment in an area inspired by Hank Pym’s lab from the new film Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man & The Wasp will be located in this gallery.

In the ninth gallery, visitors will be able to activate the mad titan, Thanos’ infinity gauntlet. Each of the known Infinity Stones will be introduced and activated in an interactive display.

The exhibition culminates with the tenth gallery where visitors can ‘step’ on the icon of their favorite Super Hero with the use of Augmented Reality technology and watch specially created animation appear on the screen. While leaving you can pose with your favorite Super Hero in the Marvel Studios’ 10th anniversary class photograph.

“Everything we do at Disney revolves around our content and providing audiences with the coolest experiences with their favorite Disney, MARVEL, STAR WARS stories and characters,” said Amit Malhotra, Country Head, The Walt Disney Company Singapore and Malaysia. “This Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes exhibition for Singapore celebrates ten incredible years of blockbuster entertainment from MARVEL and provides fans with a completely innovative, multi-platform experience which will reconnect them with their favorite MARVEL movie moments.”

My son and I had fun at the exhibition and we are sure you will too:

Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes is developed by The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia and Beast Kingdom; organised by SPACElogic and supported by Singapore Tourism Board, ArtScience Museum and Victory Hill Exhibitions.

For those looking for the educational aspect of the exhibition, Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes also include engaging displays curated by ArtScience Museum, which highlight the science, technology, art and cultural stories behind each Marvel Studios’ film. You will be treated to interesting fun facts such as the Norse mythology in the Thor movies and how real life scientists have created artificial elements comparable to the one created by Tony Stark. Inspired by the geometry and tessellating imagery that result from Doctor Strange’s reality bending, one of M.C. Escher’s most famous works – his lithograph Convex and Concave (1955) which illustrates the principles of tessellating imagery is on display in the exhibition.

Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes exhibition will run from 9 June till 30 September 2018.  Tickets are now available at all Marina Bay Sands box offices and website. Tickets prices as follow:

Join Bangkok Airways Boutiques Series 2018 to run at 7 beautiful destinations in Thailand

Sports tourism is on the rise with people become increasing conscious of their personal health and fitness. I took up running to lose weight two years ago and have not stopped since after shedding almost 30kg. Running is now a part of my life and I go for regular jogs at least 3 times a week. Running the same route can get boring though, which is why I also participate in various fun runs and other running events.

Just two weeks ago on 10 June, I completed my first half marathon overseas at Koh Samui at the Bangkok Airways Samui Half Marathon, part of the airline’s Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2018 which is into it’s second year this year.

The Samui Half Marathon offers runners 3 different categories which include a 5km Fun Run, a 10km Mini Marathon and a 21.5km Half Marathon.

The series of runs aim to promote tourism at 7 attractive destinations in the airline’s route network as well as to respond to the incremental demand of sports tourism in the global market by providing 7 running races all year round which comprises of five Half Marathons in Krabi, Koh Samui, Lampang, Phuket and Chiang Mai, one Full-Marathon in Chiang Rai and one Trail-Running in Trat. More details on the run and how to register are available on the official website in Thai and English.

This is my first time participating in a Bangkok Airways Boutique Series run and the experience was fantastic! The flag off for the 21.5km runners was from 5am in the morning when it was still dark. You will get to run through some scenic spots featuring mountains and water, including a short route in the Samui Navy Base as well as small villages and tourists spots.

It was nice to run pass small shops in the morning as the sun rises and see the locals smiling or waving you on. I spotted a few monks on their morning route collecting alms and also spotted a herd of cattle along my run. This is a different way to experience Koh Samui and to see more of the island resort beyond just the tourist spots.

At the end of the run, fresh coconut juice, fruits and hot, cooked meals were available for runners who completed their races. This is the first run event I participated in which provide fresh fruits and hot meals for runners!

At the start and finish point pitstop area, there are various activity stations like photo booths and games for runners and spectators to take part in.

The event attracted around 15,000 participants from around the world. For a small island resort like Koh Samui, that’s a sizeable and visible crowd.

Bangkok Airways has also added a CSR initiative to the running series with a “Shoes For Kids” campaign to make the event more meaningful for the community in Koh Samui. The initiative provides opportunity for runners to take part by donating a pair of shoes to kids-in-need living in Koh Samui via online donations. Selected students from local schools around the area were given donated pairs of shoes from registered runners as well as get a chance to learn some running techniques from experts.

Apart for the unique running race in Koh Samui, the island offers great tourist attractions to explore from splendid natures, unique island cultures, unbeatable shopping experience, southern Thai food to great nightlife. Runners can also visit nearby islands or scuba diving at Ang Thong Marine Park, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao pre or post running event.

Interested to take part in the next Bangkok Airways Boutique Series run or to visit Koh Samui?

Bangkok Airways flies non-stop from Singapore to Koh Samui twice daily. The flights are operated by Airbus319 with seat capacity of 138.

Tsuta launches 2 extremely affordable Tori Paitan Ramen Dishes!

All you foodies out there, listen up! Tsuta, the world’s first Michelin-starred ramen eatery, has launched 2 new dishes for you to enjoy!

Tsuta is helmed by Chef Yuki Onishi who is known for experimenting with unique flavours and for using high quality ingredients in his dishes.

Read on to find out more about the new delicacies that you can sample at Tsuta!

Tori Paitan

The brand new Tori Paitan Soba (chicken ramen) comes in both original and spicy options (along with sides) for variety. The new ramen features one of the most popular ingredients in Asia and Singapore: chicken!

The original Tori Paitan (S$12, inclusive of GST and no service charge) includes a sumptuous broth, two tender pieces of roasted teriyaki chicken, sweet corn, shiitake mushrooms, baby leaves and egg.

The broth is rich as it has been boiled for five hours and ingredients that go into the broth include chicken bones and feet as well as Chef Yuki’s special shoyu tare. However, do note that it is slightly on the salty side and may be more favourable for those who prefer intense flavours.

I especially loved the chicken thigh slices as they are tender and juicy. A lot of effort goes into preparing the chicken thigh slices as prior to cooking, it is soaked in a shoyu and white wine marinade!

I also enjoyed the texture of noodles which is springy and fits well with the broth.

For those who prefer spicy ramen, there is also the Spicy Tori Paitan (S$13, inclusive of GST and no service charge). The broth is made the same way, with the addition of chilli oil!

You can certainly feel the spicy kick when drinking mouthfuls of the broth or even when eating the ramen. The chilli oil is made with chilli padi, olive oil and leek, following an in-house recipe.

Interestingly, the dish comes with a side of tomato paste that can be added to the broth for extra flavour. At the media tasting, I first tried the dish without the paste and then with and discovered that the tomato zest gives the broth an added tang, thereby transforming the dish!

Personally, I think the addition of the tomato paste is extra delightful for those who prefer their ramen to just have a hint of spice or those with lower spice tolerance, like me!

Delectable Sides

Of course, main dishes aside, there are also 4 new side dishes to discover!

Tsuta now offers Edamame ($4.80) as a side dish! You may be thinking, what’s so unique about this?

Well, Tsuta’s edamame is imported directly rom Japn and is lightly seasoned with a mixture of Mongolian rock salt and pepper that enhances its taste. It is a light and delicious starter snack that goes perfectly with Tsuta’s ramen.

The portion is given also reasonably generous!

For those who prefer a more filling side dish, Yaki Gyoza ($6.80) may be the dish for you!

The Yaki Gyoza is pan-seared to a nice crunchy crisp texture. The gyoza is made with thin wheat, flour skin, seasoned minced pork, shiso leaves and momen tofu, giving it a hearty and rich taste overall. For those who dislike consuming overly gamey pork, you will be glad that the presence of tofu helps eliminate the overpowering taste of pork unlike other gyozas.

The Yaki Gyoza also comes with a side of chilli paste for you to dip it in.

There is also the Sui Gyoza ($6.80) which is made the same way as the Yaki Gyoza except that it is specially marinated in a lemon and shio tare dressing. This gives it a slightly zesty and light flavour which complements the filling well.

Both types of gyoza are accompanied by a special dipping sauce made of shoyu tare and Japanese vinaigrette. In my opinion, though, the dumplings are flavourful enough on its own and one may find the dish to be a tad salty if dipped in the sauce.

What better way to end off a good meal than with dessert? Tsuta now offers an extremely affordable Matcha Bavaro ($2.80) which is made with premium matcha, azuki beans, mint leaves and fresh cream.

Even as someone who doesn’t enjoy matcha, I still enjoyed the silky and smooth texture of the concentrated matcha which has a light and delicate flavour. Match it with the sweet azuki and rich cream and you get a perfect mini dessert!

Details about Tsuta and their new dishes

These featured dishes will be launched on 29 June at both Tsuta outlets.

[Hotel Review] Holiday Inn Resort Vana Nava Hua Hin

I have a new favourite hotel in Thailand and it’s the new Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin which is Holiday Day Inn’s first water park resort in Asia.

Earlier this year in February, the hotel was launched with much fanfare on Thailand’s idyllic Gulf coast, featuring various Thai celebrities performances and even a fireworks display to round up the night. I was there during the launch and here are some pictures I took:

I enjoyed my first stay at the hotel very much. So much so that I returned again earlier this month. This time, I traveled to the resort with three kids – my son Asher, and my friends’ two daughters, Kelly and Kate, in a party of 4 adults and 3 kids, packing ourselves into a rented Toyota Fortuner SUV from Avis.

Depending on traffic conditions, the drive from Bangkok to Hua Hin is approximately 200km and takes around two and a half hours one-way, making it an attractive vacation destination for those who would like to explore outside of Bangkok for a holiday.

Hua Hin has always been a popular tourist destination for the locals since the 1920s, when it was hand-picked to be the first resort town of Thailand by H.M. King Rama VI. The seaside town offers a beautiful view of the sea and respite from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok city centre.

Rooms and facilities

What I like about the hotel is it’s holistic approach as a one-stop family resort hotel. The hotel features 300 rooms and suites, including a series of interconnecting rooms and KidSuites, with special rooms decked out with bunk beds and play areas.

Pictures of the room I stayed in:

Awesome view of the railway train track and beach from my room:

Children aged 12 and under can stay and eat for free, and all guests are offered free Wi-Fi and unlimited access to Vana Nava Hua Hin Water Jungle, the water park. Admission to the water park and the hotel room is via a RFID wrist tag that is issued to each staying guest. You can also use the tag to pay for F&B and hotel services, making it convenient for you to stay wallet-free and free of keys or room access cards while you enjoy yourself at the water park.

Some pictures I took at the water park:

The RFID wrist tag which can be used to access the water park, pay for stuff within the hotel, unlock your hotel room door and even rent a locker for free:

Other than the water park, guests can also unwind in the resort’s own extensive facilities, including a dramatic 26th floor infinity pool, the Tea Tree Spa, a 24-hour fitness centre, kids’ club and children’s pool.

The kids quite enjoyed themselves at the kids’ club when we left them there in the morning after breakfast so that the adults can have some free time of our own. They didn’t want to leave when we went back to collect them.

As the highest hotel in Hua Hin, the hotel offers 360-degree views from the rooftop and guests can watch stunning sunrises over the Gulf of Thailand in the east, and enjoy golden sunsets over the hills in the west. The rooftop pool is a great spot for instagram-worthy shots. Here are some shots I took during sunrise:

Dining options

Dining and entertainment options include the all-day Plamong Restaurant, casual Pool Bar, and the stylish Vana Nava Sky Bar, Restaurant & Observation Deck, which offers spectacular views across the Gulf.

Plamong Restaurant – where breakfast is served

Designed by Bangkok-based consultant Ashley Sutton, the mastermind behind some of Asia’s most famous bars including Maggie Choo’s and Iron Fairies in Bangkok and Ophelia in Hong Kong, the hotel also features a dramatic glass-bottomed deck 110 metres above ground.

For those looking to book the hotel for large events like corporate meetings or a wedding, the development offers 950 square metres of flexible event space, including five function rooms and one of Hua Hin’s largest ballrooms.

Water slides and more

Boasting 20 world-class slides and attractions surrounded by over 200,000 trees under the concept of a “water jungle”, the water park has welcomed close to a million visitors since and it is one of the biggest names in water parks in Thailand.

There are lots of stuff to do at the water park for all ages. When I asked my son what he like best about his trip to Hua Hin, he replied without thinking that it was staying at Holiday Inn Vana Nava because of the water park!

Visits to the beach via shuttle

For visitors wanting to explore the local area, Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin provides a complimentary shuttle bus service to Hua Hin Beach, which is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the resort. Alternatively, the Hua Hin area, home to some of Thailand’s top golf courses, wineries and national parks, provides great opportunities for local exploration.

If you drove to the hotel, complementary roofed parking is available just outside the hotel and beside the water park. There are several shopping malls nearby like Bluport Hua Hin and Market Village Hua Hin which are all just a short 5 minutes drive away. Other attractions like the Hua Hin Railway Station, the beaches and Plearnwan funfair are all a short drive away of no more than 15 minutes.

When driving back to Bangkok from Hua Hin, if you are heading directly to the airport to return your rental car, do factor in traffic jams which may increase your drive time from two and a half hours to five hours. It’s always better to be early than to time it too close, given Bangkok’s unpredictable traffic jams.

The Lion King Musical is now Showing in Singapore

Arguably one of the best loved stories in the world that is seen by more than 90 million people worldwide, Disney’s The Lion King and now the world’s best-loved musical returns to Marina Bay Sands for another run after the previous successful runs.

A remake of the animation film by Disney is scheduled to premiere in 2019 with big name stars like Beyoncé and Elton John in the cast list. If you are looking to refresh your memories ahead of the film or even to familarise yourself with the story again, why not catch the Lion King Musical?

The musical is running from now till 26 August, featuring a stellar cast of 51 performers, including veterans from the acclaimed London, Las Vegas, Australia and Hamburg productions. The show has garnered over 70 major international theatres awards and is brilliantly re-imagined by acclaimed director Julie Taymor, transforming Disney’s beloved film into a spectacular theatrical experience.

What I really like is the artful puppetry, bringing the wild animals and the Africa Sahara to live right on stage in tropical Singapore.

For a moment, you will feel as if you are in Africa, mesmerised by the beautiful storytelling, the drumbeats and dance choreography. Instead of lazily just doing a direct adaption and using mascot replicas of the iconic characters, the creative team behind the musical chose to bring the story to live with some very sophisticated puppetry and original scores, in addition to the original music by Tim Rice and Elton John.

This is my first time watching the Lion King musical and the same for my son Asher. Both of us enjoyed it tremendously. So much so that after we got home, he asked me to play the movie again on Netflix so he can cross-reference the scenes!

If you are interested to catch the Lion King Musical, tickets are available online via SISTIC and you can visit the official website for more information.

7 Yoga Poses So Simple, Even Kids Can Do

It’s no secret that yoga’s one of the most calming workouts you can do to reap superb health benefits. But as with every form of discipline, finding a place to start can be confusing. Once you do, though, why go at it solo? Make that a family activity! Even better, bring your kids into the fold – you have no idea how much good it can do for the young ones too!

Here are seven yoga poses so easy that you’ll be gobsmacked you didn’t think of trying them out with the kids earlier.

The mountain pose is a simple standing pose you can do anywhere and everywhere – even without a mat! And talk about a full body workout, this pose activates every muscle in the body and improves posture, doing wonders for those times you and your kids are hunched over the desk doing work.

How appropriate, the name! Rest your head against that yoga mat, and let a wave of tranquillity take over you… The child’s pose is not only a comfortable and restful pose, it boasts benefits like stretching out your lower back and aiding digestion.

Have only 5 minutes to spare before the kids have to hit their next music lesson? Not a problem. Try out this cat-cow stretch! It’s the perfect pose for an achy back to help loosen back muscles and maintain a healthy spine, making it a great way to beat that slouch.

The cobbler’s pose helps to get a good hip and groin stretch and straightens back much more easily. It’s especially beneficial to runners since it stretches the feet and ankles; if the children are budding pavement pounders, do give this a shot.

Afternoon slumps are truly a struggle – don’t forget the kids have to wake up at an ungodly hour to catch the bus to school! The downward dog pose is a great morning routine to awaken the senses. It can also easily be modified to become the dolphin pose for that little bit of flexibility and variety.

Lay flat, thrust your hip into the air, and there you have it: the bridge pose. This simple pose alleviates asthma, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and sinusitis. Given how simple it is, there’s no reason not to try!

This pose combines the downward dog and child’s pose, stretching the spine while on all fours. It relieves symptoms of chronic stress, tension, and insomnia – the perfect solution to combat those long days of mugging and CCA, and the exam stresses.

Yoga isn’t just for adults; these seven yoga poses are greatly beneficial for your kids’ health, especially when complemented with nutritional food intake – we’re talking the likes of Quaker oats and snack bars. These healthy snacks also make a great reward after a soul-cleansing yoga routine, so be sure to stock up and get to posing!

Some of you who pass by Buona Vista may have seen the magnificent structure that is The Star.

The mall, which looks like a giant and complicated ice cube structure from afar, actually houses a vast myriad of activities and options for you to choose from. Read on to find out exactly what is so special about the mall!

Food Options: 4/5

Star Vista certainly does not disappoint when it comes to food.

Star Vista’s Koufu food court, The Kitchen, offers many local delights such as Ban Mian and Chicken Rice. There are also some stalls selling food that is rare to see in usual food courts such as Mala. A huge range of international delicacies are also available.

Do note, though, that The Kitchen can be rather crowded during lunch hour on weekdays as the office crowd from neighbouring buildings flock here to enjoy cheap but good food.

For those who seek more gourmet options, there are a wide host of restaurants available such as Canton Paradise TeaHouse, Ippudo and Itacho Sushi to name a few.

Situated along the corridors of the higher floors, there are several little eateries or dessert chains that allow you to sit and enjoy a sweet treat while getting a view of the Star Vista atrium (a.k.a. people-watching at its finest as there is always some activity going on!).

As you would expect in a decently sized mall, many fast food chains such as Subway, Texas Chicken and LiHo are also available for you to choose from.

Uniqueness: 5/5

This mall is definitely unique, both inside and out!

The building was designed by Andrew Bromberg and consist of the Star Vista Mall and The Star Performing Arts Centre. There is a 5,000-seat concert hall and other venues within The Star Performing Arts Centre.

More information can be found here.

On Sundays, it is used by the New Creation Church.

On the same floor, there are also many open spaces for groups to gather or students to sit at.

It is not uncommon to see students from nearby schools or social groups “tabao-ing” food up and having gatherings here! What’s more, if you happen to be here in the evening, the open-air concept allows you to witness a beautiful show when the sun sets around 6-7pm.

As mentioned above, Star Vista has a big atrium space where there are usually promotions or activities being held. These includes shows for children or weekly zumba sessions where anyone around is welcome to join in!

The steps that face the atrium also provide yet another viable spot for groups to gather or friends to sit and chit-chat.

Those who enjoy architecture or design may be fascinated by the exterior of the mall as it is definitely a work of art. The interior of the mall is also unique in the sense that there is no air-con along the corridors unlike most malls in Singapore! However, the design of the mall is deliberate in allowing ventilation and wind to seep in, so you will not feel too hot when shopping.

Tenant Mix: 4/5

The mall has a decent number of shops that can keep you occupied.

Fashion-wise, there are several outlets but it can be said that fashion is definitely not the focus of the mall.

Interestingly, there are quite a few Japanese and Korean based marts such as Japan Home, Sol Mart and J-Mart where you can pick up quirky household items or delicious snacks.

There is also a recently revamped Swee Lee which is their flagship store! It takes up 3 units worth of space (#01-07 to #01-10) and includes music accessories, a clothing line, an academy and a coffee shop apart from stocking musical and audio equipment.

The cafe is cosy and small (albeit a little too small) and serves a range of coffees and desserts.

Accessibility: 4/5

By public transport:

The mall is definitely easy to get to as there is a sheltered walkway from Buona Vista MRT Station (CC22/EW21) and you can reach there the mall within 5 minutes on foot.

By bus, you can either head to:

Along North Buona Vista Road – 74, 91, 92, 95, 191, 196, 198, 200
Along Commonwealth Ave West – 105, 106, 147, 185, NR5, NR8

By car:

With over 800 parking lots, it should be quite easy to snag a parking lot.

POCARI SWEAT ION WATER is now available to keep you hydrated 24/7!

$

To help the everyday person stay hydrated, POCARI SWEAT has introduced its latest offering – POCARI SWEAT ION WATER which contains natural, reduced sugar, and helps keep the body hydrated for a longer period of time than water.

Healthier Choice

In line with the Singapore government’s push to reduce sugar levels in beverages, several measures have been put in place to cut sugar consumption significantly. All government offices have taken the lead by only selling beverages that meet the lower-in-sugar guidelines advocated by the Healthier Choice Symbol (HCS). Local schools have also stepped up – all drinks (with or without the HCS) that are sweetened with artificial sweeteners are not allowed.

In order for drinks to qualify as a “healthy” in schools, beverages have to use natural sugars.

POCARI SWEAT ION WATER is the answer to Singaporeans looking to rehydrate with less sugar. The sugar content in POCARI SWEAT ION WATER meets the lower-in-sugar guidelines advocated by the HCS. At 3%, it is significantly lower than the HCS requirement of less than 6% total sugar.

To maintain its light, refreshing taste, that can be enjoyed when you are indoors, or even at room temperature, POCARI SWEAT ION WATER is sweetened with natural sugars such as Luo Han Guo fruit extract, without using any artificial sugars.

The refreshing beverage also contains essential ions similar to one’s body fluid composition, which is effectively absorbed into the body, making it the beverage of choice to rehydrate.

Benefits

POCARI SWEAT ION WATER offers the same functional benefits as the original POCARI SWEAT, but with a light sweetness and a clean, refreshing taste that can be enjoyed even at room temperature. Inspired by the idea of a “drinkable IV” solution, both products are developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical to quickly replenish water and electrolytes lost throughout the day.

Staying well hydrated is crucial to leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle. If you’re not hydrated, your body can’t perform at its optimal level and you may feel tired, experience muscle cramps, dizziness, or other serious symptoms which can affect your daily life.

Most people assume that dehydration is only caused by prolonged exercise or the high humidity in our climate. However, one of the common causes of dehydration in the modern workplace is due to the dry environment and low humidity, which causes a low water content in the atmosphere leading to faster water loss in the body.

Office workers are easily exposed to dry air-conditioned environments for eight hours a day, or more, at work. To counter dehydration, ion supply beverages like POCARI SWEAT ION WATER have been proven to work better than water when it comes to maintaining the body fluid balance in a dry environment during prolonged sitting.

The influx of recent popular fitness trends has also resulted in people exercising in air-conditioned environments. This means that people may still be exposed to dry air-conditioned spaces even outside of work – making them prone to dehydration.

POCARI SWEAT ION WATER retails for $1.80 and is available exclusively at all 7-Eleven stores island-wide from July to September 2018. POCARI SWEAT ION WATER will then be available at all retail outlets island-wide thereafter.

Divorce Checklist: What You Need To Discuss With Your Divorce Lawyer

$
0
0

It is crucial for you to set the right tone when you meet your divorce lawyer for the first time. The initial meeting is not just an exchange of information, but also to build rapport and trust. In most cases, an experienced family lawyer will offer a free 20 to 30 minute consultation to understand your situation.

Family Lawyers charge by the hour. Hence, it is vital for you to prepare before meeting them so that you can maximise the time spent and save yourself some money. The best way to do that is to write a checklist of what you need to discuss with your divorce lawyer.

The below checklist is an example of what you can prepare for your first meeting with your experienced divorce lawyer.

1. Prepare and bring all relevant documents

Make copies of every relevant document that you have collected in support of your case. You must give these copies to your lawyer so that they have a copy of each document. In the event that you do not know if the material is relevant, make a copy and then ask your lawyer if the said document is pertinent to your matter. You can also choose to bring all the original documents and let the lawyer make copies at the office.

2. Prepare a list of questions to ask your lawyer and take notes during the session

You will have many questions to ask, and it is wise to keep a list of questions to help you clear any doubts you may have. A list will ensure you ask the essential questions to aid your understanding of your case. At the same time, you can take notes when your lawyer answers your questions. This prevents confusion and repeated questions in future.

Your list of questions may include the following:

  • How do I show that the marriage has broken down?
  • What kind of evidence is required to prove that the marriage has broken down?
  • What will happen to the children?
  • Who is supposed to maintain the children?
  • Is my spouse required to pay me maintenance?
  • What will happen to the matrimonial home?
  • How fast will the divorce process take?
  • When can I get remarried?
  • How much will the estimated legal cost be?

Image from Shutterstock, lawyer doing work on case.

The list is not exhaustive, and you need to add your own individual questions to make a comprehensive list to ask your divorce lawyer.

Your lawyer will require certain background information from you to fully understand your case. Some examples include:

  • Length of your marriage;
  • Nationality of both parties;
  • Whether there are children of the marriage below 21 years old;
  • Whether there is a HDB flat or private property involved;
  • Whether there are any joint assets involved (eg. joint bank accounts);
  • Parties respective take-home salary; and
  • Whether parties have discussed the matter / reached an agreement

3. Honesty is key

We cannot emphasise this more. Your divorce lawyer needs to know everything about your case. That includes all issues arising out of the marriage and family. Every topic, regardless of its sensitivity, must be revealed to your lawyer. Withholding crucial information during your initial meeting may result in complexities arising as your case progresses. It may well result in either, additional costs, or compromise your desired outcome.

4. Discuss your fees and the estimated length of the legal proceedings

Make sure that you understand the charges involved at every stage of the divorce proceedings.  The law firm may offer several fixed fee divorce packages, allowing you to pay a set fee for certain legal proceedings. Your lawyer will discuss what services are included in each package.

The letter of engagement is the working contract between you and your lawyer, so read it carefully. It will describe the nature of your legal matter, the terms & conditions of the relationship between you and your lawyer and estimated range of costs.

You also need to discuss the length of the legal proceedings and the extent of your involvement in the litigation process. The answer to this question depends on your case’s complexity and the number of contested issues involved. Your experienced divorce lawyer will be able to give you an estimation.

5. Clarify what happens after the initial meeting

Lastly, you need to clarify what will happen next and be sure to follow through on what is asked of you. Your lawyer requires your cooperation to help you. Typically, your divorce lawyer will ask you to send additional documents or information regarding your case so that they can perform an in-depth review.

For a free consultation on the divorce process and other family law issues in Singapore, feel free to contact Matrimonial Lawyers, Gloria James-Civetta & Co.

Singapore real estate cooling measures prompt property panic-buying

$

In a recent report, Singaporeans can be seen stopping traffic and lining up in extremely long queues just to get the chance to purchase some flats before anyone (including the upcoming tax measures by the government) beat them to it.

Here’s a look at what the reports had to say:

The government has announced that tomorrow (6/7) there will be increased stem duties and many properties are hurrying to sell to the public before the revised policy (pre launch sales).

Many were eager to get their new homes before noon to avoid the cooling measures. These include Riverfront Residence, Park Colonial and Stirling Residences. Channel 8 News journalists were at Park Colonial’s showroom Woodleigh MRT the night before and witnessed that the entire road was jammed, and the public had to queue to enter.

The Stirling Residences and Park Colonial was supposed to open sales only on 14 July. According to a property agent (林欣霓 – I don’t know how to translate her name) mentioned that Park Colonial had a long queue since around 8pm and agents had flocked to the showroom upon hearing the news and about the crowd. At around 9pm, the crowd was still waiting as some admin was not finished and sales could not officially start.

A buyer mentioned that around 6pm, a friend had notified him about the cooling measures and once he had heard that there were early sales, had gone down to check out the crowd. Another buyer had mentioned that he had visited the showroom 3 days ago and was hesitating whether to make a purchase. As he was mostly satisfied with the condominium, he decided to queue and re-evaluate his decision before making a purchase.

To facilitate quick sales, the deals were made on a first come first serve basis for choosing of nites and signing of the “option to purchase” contract, and not like previous condo sales where buyers had to take a number and sign the contract before choosing their unit. As for Riverfront Residence in Hougang, there was an equally long queue and employees on duty even had to give out bottled water to those who were waiting in line.

A property agent, Eric, arrived at the showroom at 6.30pm to help clients queue. He mentioned that this is because he understands the hefty difference of 50000SGD is a lot for many and thus is worth the 4 hour wait.

A couple who managed to successfully buy a unit told the press that they felt very fortunate as they were previously interested in the area and had gotten a queue number for when sales launched but decided to rush down for the early sale once the government announced the cooling measures. An agent told the press that he estimates that all unites would be cleared and sold by the end of the night.

Here’s a video of what went down at one of the properties that went on advanced sale to get out of the new cooling measures.

In the video, you could see the long line snaking around the building, as well as the traffic that seems to have clogged the roads around the property.

Were you one of the lucky ones who have the money and were able to score

According to a report by Channel News Asia, a 33-year-old Assistant Engineer named Lim Chee Keong has been convicted of having sex with a minor and possessing an extensive collection of 197 obscene films. He has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined $20,000.

What did he do?

Reports said that he found the then-15-year-old girl on a website that solicited sex clients. The girl allegedly put up an ad looking for someone who could pay her tuition in exchange for sexual favours.

The man answered the advertisement, and promised an amount of $4000 to $5000 monthly for the girl if she agreed to his requests.

Lim and the girl discussed the arrangements through chat applications.

The girl agreed, but Lim wanted to engage in bondage and domination play, which the girl was uncomfortable with doing. Still, she went through with all his requests despite her reluctance and psychological trauma from the incidents.

Lim also told her to delete their conversations on the chat apps so that there would be no evidence of their encounter.

The encounters

But the girl’s troubles did not end there–nor did she get the money she was promised.

According to the report, Lim drugged her during their first encounter in December 2017 by asking her to sniff a certain substance, which made her more compliant to his demands.

They had sex on the staircase in Lee’s home.

The next time they met, it was in January and that was when he asked her to perform BDSM acts with him. The young girl had lied to her parents that she was studying with a friend but instead went to meet Lee.

He had drugged her and refused to wear a condom for the three times that they had intercourse. Still, the girl was not paid what she was promised. She was made to endure extremely degrading acts that damaged her psyche.

How did they get found out?

Reports said that the girl began exhibiting odd behaviour in school, which prompted her teacher to ask her to see a counsellor. The girl ended up telling the counsellor about the sexual encounters, which lead to Lim’s arrest.

While the conversations on their phones were deleted, Lim admitted to having sex with the girl, but that he decided to abscond from any fees once he had gotten what he wanted.

Lee will appeal his sentence

While the prosecution said that Lim’s actions had causes psychological harm and that girls at that age are unable to make conscious sexual decisions and relationships, the defence said that the girl was just shy of 16 years old, and that she was not trustworthy in relation to Lee.

Reports said that the defence argued that, “There was no evidence of physical or intellectual disability in the victim, and pointed out that she snuck out of her house to meet the accused the first time and also lied to her parents.”

Other reports said that the defence also said that Lim has no prior cases and that his mental condition was exacerbated by taking care of his ill father.

Lim said that he will appeal his sentence.
